Joseph Reader was a missionary, evangelist, Indian Agent, and author. In 1874 he was an ordained deacon in Winnipeg, and was an ordained priest in 1845. In 1880 he was transferred to Devon Mission at The Pas. While in The Pas he resigned from the Church of England in 1883 and had his licence revoked in the same year. Eventually he was hired as an Indian Agent for The Pas.
