This Kelsey School Division roadway was named in honour of retired teacher/principal Vaughn Wadelius who served KSD from 1964 to 1999. An administrator at most KSD schools, he retired after 13 years as principal of MBCI. He was active in community leadership roles (Kelsey Teachers Association, Trappers’ Festival, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, COPP, The Pas Centennial) and volunteered several summers to training teachers and principals in the Caribbean, Asia and Africa. A former president of the Manitoba Teachers’ Society, he also represented retired teachers as their local, provincial and national president. Raised in The Pas, he attended local schools and was an education advocate for equitable services to northern students. He wrote a history of The Pas education (1909-1979) and was the recipient of several local, provincial and national service awards from education organizations.
