This avenue was named after the Lathlin family in the area. One member of this family, Chief Gordon Lathlin served as Chief of Opaskwayak Cree Nation. In 1967 he became the first Chief to take the first steps out from under the governance of the Indigenous and Northern Affairs, beginning with a small portion of control of the department’s Financial and Administration services.
