Keewatin is a Cree word that means “return of the north wind”. Many things in The Pas have been named Keewatin, including this street and the local college (now University College of the North). Keewatin Railway Company (KRC) was the first Indigenous owned and operated railway company in Canada. KRC operates both passenger and freight travel and has opened a door for many Indigenous communities in Manitoba.
