The Artwork of Eila Duncalfe

Eila Duncalfe began painting after her children had completed school and moved away from home. A sense of emptiness filled her life. As a youngster, Eila grew up on the family farm near Winnipegosis. After the death of her husband, she moved her family north to Flin Flon. She worked doing re-upholstery and homecare. She finally gained financial security by joining the Flin Flon School Division in 1989. Leaving an unhappy second marriage, Eila found painting as a favourable pastime. Her work is greatly influenced by her father, in which he had instilled with her his deep love and respect for nature. His encouragement to closely observe wildlife stays with her still. Eila’s observation of the history of northern Manitoba brings interest in bush planes and trains which were used to develop our north. Living in a mining town and surrounded by local hunters and trappers, the subject material is endless. Photographs are used to capture images for her creations. She has donated painting where others have benefitted from her generosity. Friends give her not only compliments and encouragement, but also criticism. Far from being offended, she always valued comments that would help further her expertise. You will find Eila’s paintings hanging in local businesses and restaurants in her home town of Flin Flon, where she resides today.
